Christopher Columbus's Real Voyages and the Secrets of the Caribbean

(by Nastya Oskina)

Christopher Columbus (1451 - 1506) was an explorer, who, as you know, discovered America. He also explored a lot of parts of the Caribbean Sea.
In 1470s Christopher Columbus took part in sea expeditions with commercial purposes. But his great idea was to travel to India through the west. Five times the expedition was rejected. Only in 1492 Columbus’s voyage was approved. He was given the title of don, and in case of great success of the expedition he was promised a reward.
In 1492 the first voyage of Christopher Columbus was made. Christopher Columbus discovered America, although he thought that it was India. During the first expedition Christopher Columbus discovered the Bahamas, Haiti, Cuba, and the Antilles. On the way to Haiti Christopher Columbus met Jake Sparrow. His ship was also sailing to the island of Haiti, but Christopher wanted to be the first to discover that island, so he began to throw a lot of different things, such as tomatoes, bananas, barrels and rotten eggs at Jake’s ship, but unfortunately everything fell into the sea. When Jake saw this, he began to shoot at Columbus and very soon sailed away. Christopher Columbus was very sad about his failure, because he couldn’t kill a person, who wanted to discover a new land before him.
During the second voyage Columbus’s fleet consisted of 17 ships. Columbus opened Virgin, Jamaica and Puerto Rico. When he returned to Spain, he proposed the government to settle criminals on the discovered lands. His idea was approved. Some years later Christopher came to Jamaica and wanted to see criminals that lived in the island. But when the criminals saw him, the person, because of whom they were forced to live in that place, they wanted to kill him or, at least, make him stay on the island with them. Christopher understood that the only way to escape was to run quickly to the ship and sail away.
The third expedition of Christopher Columbus was finished in 1498. The main discovery of Columbus was the island of Trinidad. But at the same time, Vasco ad Gamma found the real way to India. When Christopher Columbus returned back home with valuable trophies, he was declared a liar and sent to Spain.
The last expedition was in 1502. Columbus proved that there is a continent between the Atlantic Ocean and the South Sea. That year he reached Central America. During the trip he explored the coast of Honduras, Mosquito, Costa Rica and the Panama isthmus, as well as the Gulf Moskitos and the northern part of the Gulf of Darien. When Christopher Columbus was sailing to the Caribbean Sea Davy Jones’s ship, called «The Flying Dutch» appeared behind him. Christopher was very scared, he didn’t know what it was, but the ship was really terrible. Columbus had to escape from there as fast as he could.
